Motorists who were fined for overstaying parking restrictions at Towerfields leisure complex in Huntingdon are due to get official confirmation this week that they will get refunds or their fines waived.

Legal & General said that because of the Christmas break its decision to refund motorists had yet to reach the right people who enforce the fines but it expected the situation to be resolved by the end of the week.

The Hunts Post has received daily calls and e-mails from infuriated motorists looking for refunds after receiving £100 fines for breaking a three-and-a-half hour parking limit introduced on November 30.

On December 24, we started a petition, calling on Legal & General to “Ditch the Fines”. Less than a week later, the company announced it had told Civil Enforcement Limited to suspend its enforcement cameras.

Many people received fines in the post after visiting Towerfields to watch a film at Cineworld and eat at one of the restaurants – an impossible task to achieve within the time limit. There is a machine in Cineworld where motorists can enter their vehicle’s registration to extend their parking beyond the limit, but motorists complained it was hidden away and there were no other machines in any other buildings.

The Hunts Post understands that the cameras will remain in place, but with a longer time limit.
