The operator of a Huntingdon care home which was forced to close its doors after it became financially unsustainable has said that all residents were successfully re-homed.

Four Seasons Health Care, owner of Ringshill Care Home, announced back in March that spiralling costs meant that running the home for its 57 residents was costing the company more than it was earning - rendering it unviable.

Cambridgeshire County Council was called it to help re-house residents and, following months of work, Four Seasons confirmed that the doors to the home were closed on June 20, with all residents having been placed in new accommodation.

Of the 66 staff who were employed at Ringshill, located in Sallowbush Road, two accepted offers to be redeployed within the company, with the remainder “given redundancy terms”.

A spokesman for the company told The Hunts Post: “Four Seasons Health Care had been operating at a loss for some time as the income it was receiving did not cover its operating costs, which included rent on the leasehold premises. Effectively the company had been paying to provide care to its residents and this was not sustainable. The consultation process was completed with all colleagues and with union representation.

“The home team worked with Cambridgeshire County Council's social services team to ensure that the residents and their families were supported to find suitable alternative placements.

“The 57 residents were transferred to new care settings. We adhere to good practice guidelines on closures and the safe transfer of older people to new care settings, which have been produced by the Association of Directors of Adult Social Services and the Social Care Institute for Excellence.”

The spokesman added that the premises had been passed back to the landlord.

A spokesman for Cambridgeshire County Council said: “Ringshill care home, which was run by Four Seasons, has now closed and all the residents have moved out. We worked hard to ensure all the residents had alternative locations they could call home again and took extra care they and their families had all the information they needed to reduce stress and worry.

“Our locality team worked with families and relatives to either find another care home or alternative housing and made sure their long term needs were taken into consideration. Where possible, we located people close to family and kept friends together.”
