A whopping £168,681 was taken over the phones for Comic Relief by volunteers at Cambridgeshire Direct, a council contact centre. Volunteers from Cambridgeshire County Council and the centre, as well as councillors, took calls through the evening and night. Cambridgeshire Direct usually deals with a range of services for the countys residents and answers around 440,000 calls a year. More than £74 million was raised on Red Nose Day.
