More than 9,000 visitors from around the world got to see the last two airworthy Lancaster Bombers take to the skies at Little Gransden Air and Car Show on Sunday (August 24).

Visitors from as far as New Zealand and Australia were treated to some of Britain’s best aeroplanes including a Twister, Hurricane and the much anticipated Lancaster Bombers.

The four hour air show started with a Spitfire flyover at 1pm, closely followed by a Tiger Moth bi-plane and C172 display. The Trig Aerobatic Team wowed audiences with their acrobatic stunts before a former RAF Vulcan took to the skies for three flyovers.

The show, which has been running for 22 years, has set new records. Organiser Dave Poile told The Hunts Post this year’s event raised around £40,000 for BBC Children in Need.

He said: “It was a record number of visitors and record money raised. The highlight of the show was obviously the Lancaster Bombers. We had visitors from Canada, visitors from New Zealand and Australia and I just want to say thank you to everyone for their support.”

Mr Poile added that one visitor from New Zealand told him it was “worth crossing the world for”.

However, some potential visitors were left disappointed as the show sold out in advance while others faced three-to-four mile queues of traffic to get to the airfield. Those who did get to the show could also browse hundreds of vintage vehicles, including London buses, tractors, motorbikes and a lorry decorated to commemorate the Battle of Britain.

A cheque will be presented to the Children in Need Appeal in November.
