Members of the Ailwyn Lodge of masons raised more than £1,000 for the Acorn Cancer Support Group.

The Ramsey-based lodge’s charity steward, David Perkins, presented a cheque for £1,200 to the group together with immediate past master John Pilbeam, who nominated the charity during his year as worshipful master.

The fund was topped up by the Masonic Province of Northamptonshire and Huntingdonshire.

Acorn hold monthly meetings in Ramsey, Huntingdon, and St Ives and welcome anyone in area who is a cancer sufferer, or a carer to attend.

Meetings in Ramsey take place on the first Monday of the month at the Ramsey Resource Centre, in Stocking Fen Road. The meeting starts at 11.15am.

Acorn chairman, Simon Townend said: “People should not feel alone and isolated, suffering from cancer. I witness many people who make the effort to come to the meetings enter with some apprehension, but without exception, they go home smiling and feel in a better place than before they ventured in.”
