A teenager has been presented with a Queen’s Scout Award, the highest honour awarded to young members of the Scouting movement.

Megan Moore, right, now an assistant leader for 2nd St Ives Sea Scout Group, received her certificate from Cromwell District Commissioner John Nicholls.

The 18-year-old, a former Abbey College pupil from Ramsey Forty Foot, completed various challenges over two years to gain the award, including a four-day canoeing expedition along the Caledonian Canal in Scotland, between Fort William and Inverness, crossing Loch Ness on the way.

She spent three weeks in The Gambia working with other Scouts building a community garden, and has been a young leader with the St Ives group, helping with numerous water-based activities, camps and trips.

Megan, who is studying outdoor leadership and coaching at Derby University, said: “I would like to dedicate this award to the late Dave Lilley who, as group Scout leader, inspired me. I would also like to thank all the leaders here for their support and encouragement.”

Megan, who has a twin brother, Thomas, a sister Georgina, 25, and another brother, Christopher, 22, will be invited to a further celebration at Windsor Castle in April.
