: When the speaker called to explain that he was unavoidably detained and unable to deliver the expected talk on pruning shrubs, the club had to fall back on its own members to provide the evening lecture. This called forth two most interesting and informative talks.
The first, given by Robin McPherson, was the propagation of dahlias. With practical demonstrations and clear instruction, the club was shown the basic techniques and had the added bonus of many cuttings to take home.
The second speaker, Kate Paine, introduced members to the many and varied forms of the pelargonium and geranium family.
With many plants from her own collection, the difference between them was explained and demonstrated and the various forms were passed around for close inspection. Everyone agreed this impromptu evening was a great success, and the chairman thanked the two speakers.
The next meeting will be on Monday, May 15, at 7.30pm at the George Hotel, Ramsey, when Carol Adams will speak about clematis.
