There are lengthy delays on rail services running through St Neots after a person was struck by a train.

A spokesman for British Transport Police said: "We were called to St Neots station in Cambridgeshire at 12pm on Monday, September 14, to reports of a person being struck by a train.

"Colleagues from Cambridgeshire Constabulary and East of England Ambulance Service also attended, and a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The incident is not being treated as suspicious, and officers are now working to identify the person and inform their family.

"A file will be prepared for the coroner."

Virgin Trains East Coast posted on Twitter: "Emergency services are dealing with an incident near St Neots, causing delays between Peterborough and Stevenage."

The company added that, as a result of the incident, several scheduled services had been cancelled, including the 12.08pm from King's Cross, in London, to Newark, and the 12.35pm service from King's Cross to Leeds.

Trains already on the line have been brought to a standstill, with passengers facing lengthy delays while emergency services attend the scene.
