WYTON children joined Peterborough United’s David Farrell, the under-13s coach, for a training session to mark the opening of a new playground on the RAF base.
Courtney Eaton, 11, from Wyton-on-the-Hill Primary School, cut the ribbon to open the new multi-use play area and two refurbished play parks in RAF Wyton’s families’ accommodation.
Headteacher Jo Phillips said: “The children were so excited to be the first ones to use the new facility and have a lesson with Peterborough United Football Club.
“They will benefit hugely from the multi-use games area and rejuvenated play parks for many years to come. It shows the children that they are valued and are valuable members of our community.”
Wing Commander Mike Brown, station commander, added: “These parks are really important to our community. Service children are often faced with challenging circumstances, and many have to cope with instability brought about by postings, or by having a parent deployed on operational commitments.
“The parks will help our families settle in to RAF Wyton by providing a safe environment where children can meet and develop new friendships.”
The work was paid for by the RAF Benevolent Fund and Wyton-on-the-Hill Parish Council.
