A plan has been revealed to launch a volunteer-run FM radio station for St Neots.

The not-for-profit, Black Cat 107, will be on air full time from April 17 after a 10-year campaign.

Mark Hansard, a co-director of Black Cat Radio for the past seven years, said: “Not only is this fantastic for us, we believe this is great news for St Neots. Community radio is uniquely placed to make a difference. This is about far more than just playing music. Along with supporting businesses and organisations, it’s an opportunity to promote all that is good about St Neots, provide individuals with a voice and offer the whole community a social hub.”

Presenter, Tony Gillham, said: “Thanks to the support of local businesses we have been able to maintain an online presence while we were waiting for the licence to be granted. We’ve had to endure a great deal of bureaucracy to get to this point. Now we can finally look forward to getting Black Cat 107 on the air.”

Gary Lee, who joined as a director 12 months ago said: “Our aim is to make a difference to those living and working in and around St Neots and to be what community radio was intended to be. Using all the media platforms we will be totally interactive and accessible. However, there’s still a lot to do, so we would very much like to hear from local individuals and businesses who would like to help us make this project a success. About 12.5 thousand listeners currently subscribe to our station on the TuneIn app. We would like the rest of the 40,000 in St Neots to join them and create a truly connected community.”
