Victims of the Grenfell Tower fire tragedy in London will benefit from quilts made by a group from Godmanchester.

Members of the New Comrades Patchwork and Quilting Group made 13 quilts which they presented to representatives of the Filipino Women’s Association in a ceremony at the Comrades Club.

Helen Hollington, from the group said the presentation was “absolutely lovely”.

“The ladies who belong to the New Comrades Patchwork and Quilting Group were deeply touched by the plight of all those who lost their homes and all their possessions in the Grenfell Tower fire,” she said.

“Immediately, we wanted to do something to help so we talked to one of our members who comes from the Philippines. Elvira told us that there were possibly some Filipinos who had been affected by the fire.”

Helen added: “It was suggested that we could make some quilts so we have all donated fabric with Jonathan Kirby, of Cambridge Interiors in Huntingdon, very kindly providing the wadding which enabled us to produce the quilts to be given to the Filipino Women’s Association to distribute.”
