Pupils at Priory Park Infants School said “bye bye” to their teaching assistant Brenda Hackett who left with the sound of the Bay City Rollers ringing in her ears on the last day of term.
Reception class children presented Brenda, from Hail Weston, who has been at the school in Almond Road for 21 years, with a bouquet of flowers, a golden ticket for Cadbury World, a basket of chocolates, a hand-painted glass and a banner, which had been decorated with pupils’ handprints. Staff and pupils also produced a farewell song; they sang “Bye Bye Brenda” to the tune of the Bay City Rollers’ Bye Bye Baby.
“Brenda will missed by everyone here,” said office administrator Michaela Hewlett.
“She has been here so long that some of the children she taught are now parents themselves. I’m not sure how we are going to cope.”
