The proposal, which is being managed by planning consultants Deloitte Real Estate, could see 390 homes and a childrens play area built near Silver Street.The site, which is located to the north east of Buckden, lies directly south of the A1 and east of Silver Street. The land, which is currently owned by the Church Commissioners for England, compromises an agricultural field, a number of paddocks and two semi-detached properties. Once the public consultation is complete, the planning consultants will seek outline planning permission for a maximum of 390 family homes, ranging from one to five-bedroom properties. New vehicle access via Silver Street and a pedestrian links to the existing cycle path alongside the A1 have also been proposed. The site is understood to have been allocated within the local plan as a site appropriate for housing. Residents attended the consultation, which was held last Monday (July 2) at Buckden Village Hall, and raised concerns over the pressure that the housing would place on traffic, school places and doctor places. Elizabeth Baker, who is a Buckden resident, said: Its not that we dont want any development in Buckden, its just the pressure that it is going to place on everything else. A lot of the homes arent going to be affordable to younger people, which is something that we want to encourage. There is already a lot of traffic around the village, especially with the A1. And with the new train timetable the crossing the other end of the village is just going to get worse. Developers have proposed 40 per cent affordable housing for the development. Deloitte Real Estate will now review the consultation comments, and aim to submit a planning application to Huntingdonshire district council by August. If the development is successful, it is predicted that building work would begin at the site in the spring of 2020. The deadline to make a comment on the proposal is July 23.
