A SHOPLIFTER who stole more than £1,200 of alcohol from two shops in St Neots will be sentenced in February.

Roberto Penta, 57, visited Waitrose seven times and the Eaton Socon Co-operative store twice last year to steal alcohol.

Delia Matthews, prosecuting, said: “He admitted the crimes in interview but didn’t say if he did it to sell the alcohol or consume it himself.”

The Italian man admitted nine charges of theft at Huntingdon Magistrates’ Court on Thursday (January 17) and will be sentenced on February 7.

Penta was released on bail with the condition that he doesn’t go into any Waitrose stores, report daily to the police and he resides at his home in Cavendish Street, Bedford.
