THREATENED post office branches will not by saved by Cambridgeshire County Council stepping in to prop them up, as has happened elsewhere in the country.
Essex County Council began negotiations earlier this year in a bid to take over 15 branches threatened with closure.
After Essex declared its intentions, councils including Leeds, West Sussex, Northamptonshire, Darlington, Durham and Lancashire expressed an interest in the idea.
Last night a spokesman for Cambridgeshire County Council confirmed: "There are no plans for the council to become involved with running post offices.
