The Hunts Post is extending the deadline and opening a poll for readers to make their opinions heard about the naming of a town pub.

J D Wetherspoon is awaiting planning permission from Huntingdonshire District Council for its proposal, but with high hopes of getting the go-ahead, has asked readers to vote for their favourite name from a list of options.

The top choice so far is The Harlequin, with The Mail Room coming in second. The other options put forward by the chain are The Sorting Office, The Postal Room, The George Hall, and Sandford House. Some readers have been getting creative by submitting their own ideas.

The pub is part of a £2.3million investment in the town, which includes a 22-bedroom hotel. It wants to renovate the town’s former post office, sorting office and George Hall, just off the ring road in George Street.

An HDC spokesman said it was likely a decision on planning permission for the pub would be made this week. INFORMATION: Email your choice to competitions@huntspost.co.uk by 12noon on Monday (February 2). Visit www.huntspost.co.uk to vote in our poll.
