A JOINT day of action between Cambridgeshire police and Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service will see speeding drivers in Ramsey targeted next week.
A Speedwatch group has been set up in the town after speeding was flagged up as a priority, and volunteers measure vehicle speeds to identify problem areas and speeding hotspots.
Officers will be visiting those areas of Ramsey on Wednesday (May 4) and anyone caught speeding will be given a fixed penalty notice.
Those caught committing other offences, including not wearing a seatbelt or driving while on the phone, will be offered a session with the fire service as an alternative to prosecution.
The fire service will tell drivers about collisions they have attended which could have been avoided.
Ramsey neighbourhood policing sergeant Dave Savill said: “The checks are being carried out to deter drivers from speeding and educate them about the risks.
“We are continuing to ask for the public’s help with speed watch and would like to hear from anyone who is interested in being involved.”
INFORMATION: Anyone who would like to find out more about Speedwatch in Ramsey should contact Ramsey Police Station on 0345 456 4564.
