POLICE are investigating after racist anti-Polish leaflets were distributed around Huntingdon.

The inflammatory leaflets, which have also been pinned up in public, claim: “We have been invaded by the Polish and no one seems to be doing anything about it.

“You cannot walk down the street without seeing and hearing them, they are everywhere and Huntingdon is infested with them.”

The leaflets are written anonymously, and police are now appealing for anyone with information to contact them.

St Ives Town Councillor Jonathan Salt, who lives in Huntingdon, contacted The Hunts Post after he became aware of the leaflets.

He said: “The leaflet really is odious.

“I think it is dreadful, and whether or not this person is stupid or clever, they do not know the difference between migrants and immigrants. The Polish are legal migrants.

“It has been done on somebody’s word processor. It has not been professionally published and printed.

“The language that is used is inflammatory: it is an act of racial hatred.”

Cllr Salt, who visits Poland regularly as part of his job in Holocaust education, said he was disgusted by the leaflet and compared its claims to those used by Nazis against the Jews.

He added: “I have got friends who are Polish and I work in Poland. It’s a vast misrepresentation of the situation. You look at the English stag nights in Krakow and they demolish the place.”

It is unclear exactly how many leaflets and posters have been distributed, but there have been reports of them appearing near the Tower Fields area of Huntingdon.

The offensive leaflet goes on to say: “They have taken our homes, jobs, benefits and our identity. They have put pressure on our health care system and we have had enough.

“If nothing is done soon there will be nothing left and we British will be non existent because worse is yet to come.”

A police spokesman said: “We have been made aware of several posters being put up around Huntingdon over the weekend.

“We take all forms of racism very seriously and are investigating. We would like to hear from anyone who knows who is responsible.”
