A St Neots mum has described the terrifying moment she realised someone had fired an air rifle at the window of the room where her baby daughter was sleeping.

Lisa Mulvey and husband Steve, of Dramsell Rise, in Love’s Farm, heard what sounded like ‘popcorn popping’ over the baby monitor and decided to check on the 15-month-old who was in her cot in the bedroom upstairs.

The shot from the weapon had shattered the glass, but the toddler was sleeping peacefully.

“We were downstairs and we could hear something through the baby monitor that sounded like popcorn,” Lisa, 31, said.

“I went upstairs to check and saw that the window was shattered, but luckily it didn’t break the glass as it is double-glazed.”

Lisa and Steve moved to the town from London in June and have both been left shaken and frightened by the incident, which happened on September 21, between 9.30-10pm, and are looking at installing security measures.

“We both feel very upset by this as it is just not something you expect to happen and we are lucky the window was double-glazed as the cot was close by.

“We are looking at installing CCTV cameras as it has made us both feel vulnerable that someone out there would do this.

“Someone just fired this shot and had no idea our daughter was just behind that window.”

Mrs Mulvey said people in the area had been supportive and she had received lots of positive messages on social media.

In a statement, Cambridgeshire police said: “We received reports that between 9.30pm and 10pm on Wednesday, September 21, what is believed to be an air rifle was shot towards a home on Dramsell Rise, St Neots.

“Officers are investigating the incident which resulted in the outer pane of a double glazed window being damaged.”

Earlier this year, police appealed for information in relation to similar incidents in the area.

A series of windows and a security light in St Neots had been smashed on a number of occasion, with a pellet gun or catapult, between November 2015 and March 2016.
