A FANCY-dress party at a teenage town councillor’s house was dispersed by police on Saturday night.

Friends of St Ives Town Councillor Tom Bletsoe held a surprise party to celebrate the 18-year-old’s election in February as the youngest councillor in the country.

But neighbours disturbed by the noise of the partygoers called police, who turned up shortly after midnight to break up a crowd of between 20 and 30 teenagers dressed as pirates.

Speaking to The Hunts Post on Tuesday, Cllr Bletsoe said he would be writing to neighbours in Green Leys, St Ives, to explain the noise and apologise for the disturbance.

“It was a mixture of delayed celebrations of the success, which was easier to organise in the Easter holidays. Things were not really out of hand. When the police arrived, people were leaving so there were a lot more people outside the house.

“The police came over and they were really helpful and useful in helping to get people going.”

Cllr Bletsoe said he had known only “vaguely” about the party beforehand, and had been told to dress as a pirate by friends.

He added that was unsure how many guests had been at the party, as they had been spread throughout the house and garden, and had been surprised at how many had attended.

“Just before midnight, one of the neighbours came and spoke to me and asked if we could turn the music down or they would have to call the police, so I turned the music off,” he said.

“As far as I know the neighbours were informed before the party.

“I have also got a letter to write, which I will send to neighbours, to apologise for any disturbance on the night.”

A police spokesman confirmed that officers attended a property in Green Leys, St Ives, to find between 20 and 30 youths aged from 16 upwards “being rowdy” in the street.

• Cllr Bletsoe was elected to represent the St Ives South ward on St Ives Town Council in February after the resignation of the previous councillor, and will sit until the elections in May 2012.
