More than 160 people were arrested in Cambridgeshire during the summer drink and drug drive campaign.

The two-month campaign, which ran throughout June and July, saw officers from the Road Policing Unit target motorists driving under the influence of drink and drugs.

A total of 163 arrests were made for drink or drug driving offences, compared to 151 in the same period last year.

Roads Policing Inspector, Phil Bloor, said: “While it’s disappointing to see people continuing to get behind the wheel whilst under the influence, it’s encouraging to see that we are catching and arresting those putting themselves and others in danger.

“Any amount of drink or drugs in your system can affect your ability to drive and so we always encourage motorists to have none for the road.

“Although the campaign has come to an end, our focus on drink and drug driving has not.

“I want to make it clear to motorists that we always prioritise bringing offenders driving under the influence to justice.”
