A PLANNING application has been submitted for a four-turbine wind farm between Kimbolton and Stow Longa.

Broadview Energy submitted the application to Huntingdonshire District Council this week for the proposed development on land near the Bicton and Harvards Way Industrial Parks.

If permission is granted, the wind turbines could be in operation late next year and would generate enough electricity for 5,000 homes.

The application follows a two year assessment of the site and the surrounding area by the Broadview, which has included an environmental impact assessment and consultation with residents.

Jeffrey Corrigan, managing director of the company said: “We feel that it this is an ideal location for a small number of wind turbines. The application is thorough and appropriate for the site and adheres to national, strategic and local planning guidance. We have adapted our plans in light of our consultations and look to Huntingdonshire District Council to grant approval. The turbines can generate clean electricity for many years to come and importantly, if the scheme is approved the local area can expect to receive support for community-based projects. We have proposed a community fund that would support local community groups and projects with up to 600,000 over the wind farm’s 25 year lifetime.”

But members of the Stop Bicton Wind Farm believe the negative impact the development would have on the historical area of Kimbolton and the surrounding villages would far outweigh the environmental benefits.
