A pick-up truck based in Hartford which can reach 60mph in 1.3 seconds will go up for auction for the first time in 24 years next month.
Dubbed Britain’s fastest street-driven truck, the 1984 Chevrolet S10 boasts a seven-litre engine, a gearbox rebuilt by international drag racer Andy Frost, and has had more than £80,000 spent on its upkeep.
It boasts 900bph and has a top speed of 150mph.
Selling the impressive truck is 52-year-old George Scanlon, with an asking price of between £30,000 and £35,000.
“It’s been a big part of my life,” he said.
“I’m still polishing it, and I don’t know why, [because it’ll be] for someone else to enjoy. It’s for a fanatic and it’s a specialist thing and they [the buyer] needs to know how to drive fast.”
Mr Scanlon moved to Cambridgeshire from London to do more drag racing after discovering his love for it in 1998.
The affair began after he took apart another vehicle, hoping to make it into a low-ride car, but he soon changed his mind and decided to focus on speed instead.
The truck is also road legal, fitted with a heater and electric windows, and has a roll cage.
The truck will be sold by Classic Car Auctions, at the NEC arena in Birmingham, on April 1/2.
Viewings take place between 10am and 5.30pm on Friday (March 31), and the truck’s listing number is 529.
