Huntingdon’s Wetherspoon pub and hotel are firmly on their way after being given the green light by Huntingdonshire District Council.

Last week, The Hunts Post announced that the pub would be named The Harlequin, as chosen by readers.

Now, HDC has approved its £2.3million investment – a pub and 22-bedroom hotel for which it will renovate the former post office, sorting office and George Hall in George Street. A Wetherspoon spokesman said there was not yet a timescale for work to start or finish.

The company has also applied to serve alcohol from 9am-midnight Sunday to Wednesday and 9am-1am Thursday to Saturday and for a late-night refreshment licence – used for the sale of hot food or drink. It wants to be able to continue serving from 11pm-midnight Sunday to Wednesday and 11pm-1am Thursday to Saturday. The public can comment until Thursday, March 5.
