THE Conservatives and Labour will go forward to the second preference count in the Police and Crime Commissioner election after the completion of the first round.
Sir Graham Bright (Conservative) polled a total of 23,711 votes across Cambridgeshire and was followed in second by Ed Murphy (Labour) with 17,576.
UKIP candidate Paul Bullen pushed Mr Murphy close for second place, with less than 100 votes between them after five of the six district declared their results.
However, Labour was a clear winner in Cambridge city, with Mr Murphy receiving almost double the number of votes as his nearest challenger.
Huntingdonshire was the first district to declare at 2pm and did so in favour of Sir Graham, who accumulated 5,669 votes.
That was soon followed by results from East Cambridgeshire, where Sir Graham polled 2,704 votes, and South Cambridgeshire, where the Tories were a clear winner with 5,176 votes.
In Peterborough, Mr Murphy was again on top 5,282. Fenland’s results had Sir Graham as a clear winner with almost 3,000 votes.
As the Conservatives did not receive more than 50 per cent of the total vote, second preference votes will now come into consideration.
