Paralympic goalkeeper Ryan Kay who represented Team GB at the Rio Paralympics in 2016 visited Priory Junior School, St Neots on November 6 as part of an Olympic Legacy event to inspire youngsters.

The day was all about enjoyment and participation which helped the children learn more about sport and staff say the visit inspired everyone at the school.

All of the school’s 331 children were coached by Ryan in a readiness to take part in a sponsored exercise challenge, which they enjoyed.

The exercise challenge was followed by a question and answer session during which Ryan explained how important it was to make the most of your talents by working hard and that when success comes it can be really rewarding. Ryan talked about the World Cup final and how it had given him the opportunity to meet Prince Harry.

Ryan was first introduced to football by his older brother when he was just six years old and he quickly developed a love for the game. Ryan has now earned more than 10 England caps after making his debut at the 2015 World Cup.

At Rio 2016, Ryan was part of the GB men’s paralympic team and is currently training for the World Cup in Argentina and has recently taken up rowing. He also is a coach for Norwich City.

Event organiser Jason Coles said: “The whole day was a great success and everyone looks forward to hearing how their star visitor gets on when competing for England in the next World Cup. It has been fantastic for the children to meet a paralympian and England international and this visit will surely inspire the children to achieve great things in their future lives.”
