HUNTINGDON marked the Battle of Britain with a commemorative parade.

Cadets paraded outside All Saints Church in Huntingdon on Sunday (September 16) before attending a service with music from the Wyton Area Voluntary Band to mark one of the most momentous events in British history.

Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Cambridgeshire Michael Williamson JP inspected Air Cadets of 73 (Huntingdon) and 2331 (St Ives) Squadrons Air Training Corps while Huntingdonshire District Council chairwoman Barbara Boddington attended the service with her husband John, the Mayor and Mayoress of Huntingdon and Mayors of Godmanchester, Ramsay, St Ives and St Neots.

A spokesman for the Huntingdon and District Branch of the Royal Air Force Association, which organised the event, said the group’s aim had been to make the event an established part of the civic calendar.

“We have certainly achieved our aim,” he said, highlighting it was the sixth year that the association had held the event.

Gordon Townsend of the Huntingdon and District Branch, Neil Donaghue of the St Neots Branch and Ernie Bounds of the Dunstable Branch were all RAFA standard bearers on the parade.
