Papworth Trust launches 50km walk to raise 50k

A CHARITY has launched a 50 kilometre walk to help raise 50,000 for disabled people.

More than 15 teams will take part in the Papworth Trust walk through Suffolk and along the ancient Icknield Way to raise money to help the Huntingdon-based charity to support disabled and disadvantaged people across the East of England.

Members of the charity’s finance team, led by Denise Empson, have signed up for the walk.

Beverley Hodson, one of the team members, said: “My husband told me I couldn’t do it but I wanted to give it a try anyway. After working for the Papworth Trust for three years I thought it was time to do my bit to raise money for the trust. Going from zero fitness to this is a big effort though.”

They will be joined by Janet Ruddy, Judith Follon and Tony Osborne.

Ms Ruddy added: “I’ve been unfit ever since I was given a steel knee for bad arthritis. This challenge will be a real push for me – my longest walk so far of eight and a half miles was exhausting.”
