FILM makers in Huntingdonshire have produced the official promotional video for Cambridge University Boat Club (CUBC) as it prepares for one of the world’s oldest sporting events.

Cambridge Film Works, which is based out of Hemingford Grey, were commissioned to make the video last year in time for the University’s annual boat race with Oxford.

The short film aimed at promoting the race and attracting prospective students includes footage of the gruelling six-month training for the race and interviews with Olympic medal winning alumni.

The company, which was set up by Richard Millen and Adam Giles less than three years ago, has worked on several projects with the University as well as producing films for the BBC, National Geographic and Channel 4.

Mr Giles, 42, said: “It’s really exciting for us to be involved in such an event that is watched all over the world.

“We went out with the crews training on the river ouse and the amount of training and work that goes in to the race is unbelievable.”

The film was made out of the pair’s studio at Mr Millen’s home in Gunnings Way, Hemingford Grey and took around two weeks to make.

One of the key aspects of the video is that it focuses equally on the women’s race which doesn’t receive the same attention in the media as the men’s.

Mr Giles said: “We focussed about 50 per cent on the men and 50 per cent on the women.

“The emphasis of the film was that it’s not just about the men or the women but the boat club its self.”

The women’s race takes place this Sunday (March 24) with the men’s a week later on Easter Sunday (March 31).
