THE motorway stretch of the A1 between Sawtry and Stilton was partly closed last night to recover an overturned lorry carrying apples.
Police officers and fire crews were sent to the northbound carriageway between junctions 15 and 16 shortly before 3.50pm on Sunday, January 8, after the lorry left the road and went down the embankment.
The driver, who was able to get out of the lorry himself, was left with minor injuries but was not taken to hospital.
Officials from the Highways Agency and the police agreed that due to the volume of traffic on the road at the time it would be safer to recover the vehicle later in the day to cause minimal disruption.
At 8.45pm, lane three was closed to help with recovery and was reopened shorty before 11pm.
