The lorry-load of waste was discovered near the Garden of Remembrance by a visitor to Little Paxton cemetery on the morning of Saturday, August 27. It is thought the rubbish was dumped in the cemetery car park on the night of Friday, August 26, A digger and skip had to be used at a cost to taxpayers of £100 to dispose of the waste. Cambridgeshire Police and Huntingdonshire District Council are looking into the issue and parish councillors are urging anyone with information to come forward. Council chairman Jeanette Cleaver said: Its an absolute disgrace that someone would even consider dumping building waste at the local cemetery. Parish clerk Jenny Gellatly said: I visited the cemetery shortly after the residents phone calls and couldnt believe the mess. There was a large mountain of hard core rubble. It was as if someone had dug up a concrete drive and dumped a lorry load of large lumps of broken concrete at the cemetery. Extra security measures may be considered for the site by the parish council when it meets to discuss the matter on September 15.
