Organisers of the Huntingdon Carnival say this year’s event will be “bigger and better” after plans were put in motion.

Members of the carnival committee met on January 9 to discuss the display, which returned to the town in July last year after a 13-year absence.

Former mayor of Huntingdon, Councillor Bill Hensley, said: “I am so pleased with how last year’s carnival went, a lot of work and effort went into it and I’m really pleased with what happened.

“Last year we had about 3,000 people attend and now we have a chance to make the event bigger and better.”

Cllr Hensley, who is committee chairman, told The Hunts Posta date has already been set and the carnival will be held over the weekend of August 12/13.

The carnival will take place on August 12, and the following day will see the return of Huntingdon Community Radio’s Live in the Park event.

“This year’s theme will be animation so we will want to have a lot of cartoon characters involved,” Cllr Hensley said.

“We hope to have classic cars, community organisations involved as well as business, and this year it would be great to have more schools taking part in the carnival,” said Cllr Hensley.

To help organise the event Cllr Hensley is calling for more people to become a part of the committee, and he is also appealing for a note taker to help out at meetings.
