Olivia and Oliver are the most popular baby names in the county and it’s not the first year that these names have made it into the chart.

Cambridgeshire County Council has revealed the most popular boys’ and girls’ names for babies born in the county in 2015.

For the boys, Oliver moved up from third place last year to take top spot, followed by Harry, Jack and George.

Following Olivia in the girls’ popularity stakes are Emily, Sophie and last year’s favourite Amelia – dropping two places from 2014.

Other names holding onto their place in the top five were Thomas, Emily and Isla.

Charlie, Max, Daniel and Theo are newcomers to the list and the girls’ list continues to be increasingly traditional with Esme, Martha, and Ivy reappearing after an absence.

Some of the more unusual girls’ names that parents registered were Araminta, a hybrid of the names Arabella and Aminta, and Mirren.

Stirling, Archer, and Edison – all historically family names – were among the less common names given to boys. A number of unusual middle names, such as Wolfie and Elvis, were also recorded this year.

The county’s registration service dealt with around 8,200 birth registrations in 2015 and appointments for registrations can be booked online to make it easier for parents.
