Changes made by a new leadership team and members of staff at Abbey College, Ramsey have led to ‘raised expectations’ and improvements across the school, according to the latest Ofsted report.

The report, published today (May 5), highlighted a series of improvements which have been made across the school, particularly since a new leadership team was brought in, some 18 months ago.

Head teacher Andy Christoforou said: “We are very pleased to see that the steps we have taken have had a positive impact on standards of teaching, learning and achievement.

“We can now be confident that all pupils receive a high quality education and have good opportunities to achieve their very best results at Abbey College.”

The school was judged as good in four out of the five inspected areas of the school including: effectiveness of leadership and management, quality of teaching, learning and assessment, outcomes for pupils, and 16-19 study programmes.

The category covering the personal development, behaviour and welfare of pupils was judged to require improvement, however, and overall, Ofsted judged that the school also requires improvement in order to be rated good across the board.

Mr Christoforou added: “We will continue to work until all areas of the school are judged as good or outstanding. But we are pleased and encouraged that the changes are having such a positive an impact in just 18 months since the new leadership team took charge of the school and put us on a good path for the future.

“I am confident that the school will achieve the good overall rating it deserves if everyone supports this vision,”

The report added that “leaders have prioritised the right areas for improvement” and that improvements in the quality of teaching “have been successful”.
