People across the district came together in their spotty costumes to raise hundreds of pounds for the charity on Friday.

Pudsey spent the morning with children at Crosshall Infant School, in St Neots, helping them cover a large face of Pudsey with money that was donated for the charity.

Children from the nursery and infant school came dressed in odd socks and shoes, bringing in a £1 donation together with any loose change they could place on a replica of Pudsey’s face.

Vanessa Parker, assistant to the head teacher, said: “We had a fabulous visit from Pudsey Bear to help with our fundraising campaign for Children In Need.

“The children were so excited to see him in assembly, watching him practice his dancing for the big show on the TV. They also thought it was great fun to wear odd footwear to school.”

St Ivo School also held a variety of activities to support this year’s Children in Need.

A new event for sixth formers at the St Ives school was the ‘rowathon’ which pitted the five houses against eachother to see who could row furthest in six hours.

Many students attended school in fancy dress and staff agreed to stretch their muscles as well. A combined total of 359,208 metres – more than 223 miles - were rowed, with Leger House crowned victor.

St Ivo’s Year 11 dancers also had fun for Children in Need by choreographing a dance to compilation of Rihanna songs. The pupils dashed around the local area to perform the dance 13 times during the day, in both local schools and in the centre of Cambridge.

The ‘dance dash’ raised £148 on the day together with more than £200 of online donations.

The school also held a non-uniform day and various activities took place in the resource centre and the school raised £2,000.

Children at Thorndown Primary School, in St Ives, took part in a ‘hilarious headwear’ day where children from every year group wore wigs and hats on their heads in a bid to raise money. The idea came from the school council.
