SHAILESH Vara will join fellow Huntingdonshire MP Jonathan Djanogly on the back benches after losing his position as Government Whip in David Cameron’s ministerial re-shuffle.
The MP for North West Cambridgeshire served as whip since the General Election in 2010.
Mr Vara said:“ Since my election to Parliament in 2005, I have served on the front bench for six years. In opposition, I spent three and half years as the shadow deputy leader of the Commons and in Government I have served two and half years in the Government Whips Office.
“It has been an enormous privilege and honour to serve in both these capacities and the Prime Minister was very generous in thanking me for all that I have done.
“From the time I was elected to Parliament I have always sought to serve the people of my constituency to the best of my ability and as far as that is concerned, nothing changes. It is business as usual.”
