The Royal Oak in Hail Weston is challenging its customers to try something new in 2018.

The award-winning pub is putting on a range of #TryJanuary events run by local clubs, groups and businesses, from learning to play bridge and craft workshops, to joining the WI or singing in a choir.

“January can be a tough month especially if you’ve decided to give things up,” explained Reuben Milne, The Royal Oak’s marketing director. “That’s why we wanted to inspire our customers to act on some positive new year’s resolutions and try new hobbies, crafts and even food and drink.”

The events kick off on January 10, the day the community pub reopens after a new year break, with a free card-making workshop, and finishes on January 31, with the chance to join Hail Weston’s singing group, The Mondays.

There are also opportunities to try brush lettering in a workshop run by The Shop at Forty, in St Neots, at the pub on January 11/13/27. Children can try crafting their own bookmarks and making paper fly in the form of helicopters, aeroplanes and boomerangs.

There will also be the chance to try some new pastimes with the Hail Weston Bridge Club offering to teach the game to newbies on January 18 and members of the Great Staughton WI branch will be introducing the world of the Women’s Institute to potential members on January 17. Music fans can even try reviving their old vinyl as the pub gets out the turntable on January 24 so customers can share their favourite tunes.
