A SOCIAL group for people who have suffered a brain injury was officially opened by the Mayor of St Neots on Monday (August 12).

Cllr Andrew Hansard attended on the day to have lunch and chat to the group at their informal monthly meeting.

The group is run by Headway Cambridgeshire, a charity who offer support to people with an acquired brain injury and other neurological conditions.

The meetings are also open to clients’ family members, partners and carers.

Joanne Monk, Senior Community Brain Injury Advisor at Headway, said: “It’s very informal, it’s just about people getting together and sharing their experiences.”

Currently the group have between 8-12 members, but this can vary month by month.

Three months ago the charity identified a need for such a group as they had a number of clients in the St Neots area.

The group were then consulted about their choice of activity for the day.

Joanne said: “For our members, it is about being able to get away from home and being with other people who understand what you have been through or are going through.”

INFORMATION: The group meet on the second Monday of every month at The Priory Pub, Market Square, St Neots, from 1pm. For more information contact Joanne Monk on 01223 576550.
