A NEW Parliamentary constituency based on St Neots is on the cards if proposals published today by the Boundary Commission for England to equalise the size of electorates get through Parliament.

The plans see Jonathan Djanogly’s Huntingdon constituency cut in half and Shailesh Vara’s North West Cambridgeshire disappear completely, with Ramsey becoming part of Peterborough South.

St Neots would be a Y-shaped area, with Ellington in the north-west, Willingham and Over in the north-east, Bassingbourn and The Mordens in the south and large chunks of Huntingdonshire and South Cambs in between.

Huntingdon would get back all but Ramsey in the north of the district, gain a large chunk of Fenland as far to the north-west as Manea, but lose everything south and west of the Huntingdon and Godmanchester town boundaries.

The commission’s consultation remains open until December 5.
