Olympic gymnastic coach, Paul Hall visited Hinchingbrooke School on Thursday to officially open its brand new, state-of-the-art sports hall.
Named by the students, the £2.5 million New Energy Sports Hall offers a cardio room, weights area, hall, and even a physiology centre.
Paul Hall, who coaches Olympian Louis Smith, said: “Those of you who are old enough to remember what sports halls were like, you’ll remember cracked windows, cold drafty atmospheres, and paint peeling off the walls and it was really difficult to get inspired.
“All of these excellent activities here make sport such an exciting place.”
The opening also saw the school’s Fusion Band play as guests arrived, with plenty of canapés on offer.
Jason Turnbull, head of PE, added: “When you’ve been through school here, you will have done 33 different sports and it’s an amazing opportunity for students. We’ve got mountain biking to traditional sports and we try to cater for everyone.”
For £25 a month, members of the public can access the facilities, with no minimum term contracts or joining fees.
