PUPILS from Sawtry Infant School had a VIP role yesterday (Tuesday) – opening the village’s new Anglia Co-operative foodstore.

They cut the tape to declare the 3,000 square feet store in Glatton Road open for business - and, as a 'thank you', the store is adopting the school as its good cause for the year.

Twelve months of fundraising for the Middlefield Road school are launched today in The Hunts Post.

Store manager Hayley Bewick and her team are staging a six-week Pick Up A Penny campaign for the school as their first effort - and The Hunts Post is urging readers to support it by using the special money-off coupons on this page when they shop at the store.

Hayley said: "We will give 1p for every till receipt handed in by shoppers until Sunday, November 27 - so, the more times you shop with us, the more you will help raise for the school.

"It's a lovely school and we were delighted to have six pupils help us open our new store.

"As our cause for the year, we'll be holding fundraising events for them until next September.

"We had a great reputation for fundraising for community causes at our previous store in Green End Road and we'll be continuing that at Glatton Road.

"We raised over £1,000 for CARESCO when we 'adopted' them for a year and followed that up with over £700 for Sawtry parish church.

"We're all very excited about our new store. It has even more choice and more space and we're looking forward to starting our efforts for Sawtry Infant School."

To mark the opening of the new store Hunts Post readers can use the coupon printed in the newspapers to save £3 when they spend £20 on their next two shops - and don't forget to hand in your till receipt and boost the 'kitty' for Sawtry Infant School.
