A card and gift shop is the latest name to be announced for the new Chequers Court development in Huntingdon.

Cards Direct has been confirmed as the fifth new tenant at the precinct, which is nearing completion after more than two years of building work and development.

The firm, which specialises in greeting cards, gifts, party accessories, and decorations, was founded in 2012 and, earlier this month, opened its 20th UK store in Worthing, West Sussex.

The store has created nine new jobs and is scheduled to open on Saturday, September 23.

It will join TK Maxx, Caffe Nero, Next, and Marks and Spencer in the development, with more new names set to be announced by the owner of Chequers Court – Churchmanor Group – in the coming weeks.

Marks and Spencer is the first of the new stores to have opened, with TK Maxx scheduled to open its doors on October 12. Caffe Nero and Next have yet to confirm opening dates.

Mark Watkins, retail operations manager for Cards Direct, said: “We are an independent card and gift retailer and we are very much about the quality of the product, the value of that product, and the service.

“We try to offer the full range, we have cards from 19p, we have 10 cards for a pound, but we also offer the full spectrum for people who would like a nice big card or gift.

“Our stores are wheelchair accessible and nice and open so that it is as welcoming as it can be for customers.”
