New Forest School cabin opened at Priory Park Infants School

The mayor of St Neots officially opened a new Forest School cabin at Priory Park Infant School on Friday.
Councillor Derek Giles and mayoress, Sandie Giles attended the school’s summer fair and were able to announced that Priory Park Infants has been chosen as one of the mayor’s chosen charities for the next 12 months.
Under the Forest School concept, pupils at the school spend time in the nearby Priory Park where they are able to learn in a natural environment.
“Priory is currently the only school in St Neots to give its pupils the fantastic opportunities that a Forest School offers,” said the school’s family and inclusion officer Kate Yelland.
“The children spend time in the woodland area of Priory Park where they learn many skills including self awareness, motivation and communication whilst in the natural environment and what’s so important is that all the pupils absolutely love it.”
The new Forest School cabin, which will store forest school equipment, provide changing facilities and allow activities to continue in bad weather was paid for by the Friends of Priory Park Infant School who raised £5,000.
The school plans to use any money it receives from the mayor’s charity to fund a project to develop a sensory garden at the school.

“This will particularly benefit children with special educational needs and those coping with social and emotional issues,” added Mrs Yelland.
Cllr Giles said: “I am really excited about watching this project grow. It’s great to be able to continue to support the great work Priory Infants has already put in place to integrate and support all their pupils.”
