The device was installed on Sunday at the High Street store and came about as a result of a joint project between Somersham Football Club and the Somersham and Pidley Community First Responders. The football club had been looking into the purchase of a defibrillator to support the growing youth and senior clubs. Coach Ali McCormick said: Due to the location of the club on the outskirts of the village, it was agreed that a more centralised location would benefit everyone. With the kind permission of Tesco, the heated cabinet housing machine was on installed on the front of their shop. A grant of £1,250 from the Somersham Carnival Committee helped pay the majority of the cost of the device, with the remaining money raised by Wendy and David Brown, of Fenton, who held an Open Studios event.
