Run by Divine Canine, ‘doggy day care’ can house up to 10 pooches at a time, with enclosed indoor and outdoor spaces for pets to run around, play, and even dive into a ball pit.

The new business aims to help people who may not be able to look after their pets in the day, giving their beloved pups both physical and mental stimulation.

Owner, Anna Burgess, 27, said: “It’s quite big in America and I’ve always been passionate about dogs, and it’s something I’ve always wanted to do.

“I’m dog mad and you’re constantly seeing stuff about people not having time for their dogs or not being able to have one because they work.”

Anna, who is licensed, and also trained in dog grooming, will initially staff the site before looking into hiring people next year.

And with three dogs of her own – a mixed breed Chihuahua, a Staffordshire terrier and another as a crossbreed – she has plenty of experience behind her.

“To me it’s not daunting because I have an understanding of body language,” she said.

Each new dog will be assessed before joining the group, meeting Anna’s own dogs first to help new additions settle in.

For those wanting some quiet time though, four kennels have been set up at the back for pets to sleep and relax.
