Members of the Huntingdon and District branch of the Royal Naval Association presented a figurine commemorating sailors who died in two world wars to a church in Godmanchester.
Association members met on October 9 to present the figurine, a replica of a sculpture of a Royal Naval sailor standing in front of the Naval Services Memorial at the National Memorial Arboretum, to Reverend David Busk at the Church of St Mary the Virgin in Godmanchester.
The figurine will be displayed in the parish church in remembrance of five Royal Naval sailors, residents of Godmanchester, who were killed during the first and second world wars.
During the Great War, 1914-1919, Able Seaman John Henry Ashley, died on November 6, 1917. Able Seaman Robert Glover Foster died on December 31, 1917. Able Seaman H Wright, also died during the war, but no further details are recoded on the war memorial.
In the Second World War, Stoker 1st Class, Denis Tattersall, died on July 6, 1944. Able Seaman William Toseland died on March 11, 1943.
