World-renowned percussionist and Huntingdonshire resident Dame Evelyn Glennie has donated a number of items to Huntingdon’s Oxfam books and music shop.
Copies of a limited edition calender to mark the musician’s 50th birthday later this year sold within hours of going on sale at the High Street store.
Shop manager Geoffrey Stalker rang to thank Dame Evelyn and was surprised by a further donation, including signed sheet music and CDs, more calendars and hand-made jewellery.
“It’s all gone down well,” he said. “We sold out of the sheet music and the CDs and the calendars are selling well. It’s created a huge buzz in the shop and with customers.”
Dame Evelyn, who performed at the opening ceremony of the 2012 London Olympics and has an office at Hinchingbrooke, visited staff and volunteers on Thursday (January 29). “We were all firing questions at her,” said Mr Stalker. “We were really impressed. She was lovely, really nice.”
