A MAN is today being questioned by police over the death of Pauline Smith, who was found dead at her St Ives home last week.

Ms Smith, 54, was found dead in her home in Gainsborough Drive, having suffered a fatal compression injury to the neck.

A 53-year-old man was also at the scene with stomach injuries, and was arrested two days later on suspicion of murder.

He was kept under guard while he was treated at Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge, but was discharged yesterday (Tuesday).

He was taken into custody at Huntingdon police station, where he is being questioned by detectives.

Ms Smith's son and daughter, Charlotte and Toby Brudenell-Smith, released a joint statement paying tribute to their mother.

They said: "Mum, you will be dearly missed by everyone's heart you touched.

"Forever in our hearts and mind.

"Rest in heaven my angel. All our love, Charlotte and Toby xx."

Her ex-husband Barry Smith added: "Although we were apart I never stopped caring. All my love, Barry."

Officers were called to the house, off Constable Road, at 10.30am on Thursday (October 27), where they discovered Ms Smith's body and a man with abdominal injuries.
