A heartbroken mum who made an appeal for the return of a phone which contained a precious ‘I Love You’ text message from her son who passed away two years ago wants to thank the public.

Sue Noades contacted The Hunts Post and organised a Facebook campaign after she lost the silver Nokia mobile phone, with the heartfelt message, and a black Samsung phone, as well as photographs of her son, Jack, who died after he was involved in a car accident on New Year’s Day, 2015.

Sue, from Great Paxton, mislaid her handbag, which also contained photos of Jack and her daughter, Zoe, aged 18.

This week she contacted the newspaper to say the phone had been handed in.

“It just shows you that there are some good people out there. I would like to thank everyone who has helped to make this possible to get my phone back. Without Facebook and The Hunts Post and so many caring people this would never have happened. I am so happy to have got my messages back again and they won’t be going anywhere anymore.”

Jack, aged 19, drowned after a freak accident in which his car landed upside down in a stream. He was driving along the Barford Road in Tempsford, Bedfordshire, in the early hours of New Year’s Day when the car struck a barrier and flipped on its roof and ended up in the water, leaving the teenager unable to escape.

Jack was described as a loving and outgoing young man and more than 400 people attended his funeral.

Sue’s large pink bag went missing during the evening of January 15 and she thought she may have left it next to a bench outside the Oast Lounge and the Priory Centre. She sat on the bench before going home after watching Dale play pool.

“I wasn’t really with it that night as I had taken some strong pain killers for a bad neck, and January is never a good time for me as it is the anniversary of Jack’s death.

Some of the items from the bag, including the Nokia phone, were later handed in at the Oast Lounge.

“Jack was a well loved person by so many people and very well known in so many different places, he certainly touched peoples hearts and with the story that has been run it has shown how some good can come out of something so bad and to give hope to others,” added Sue.
