Police dealt with two multi-vehicle accidents in the Huntingdon area last night which caused road blockages.

No-one was seriously injured in the incidents which took place in the evening rush hour and involved a total of nine cars, although one woman had to be cut from the wreckage of her vehicle.

The first happened near the Dunelm store in Stukeley Road, Huntingdon, just after 5pm and involved four vehicles.

Stukeley Road was blocked temporarily after the collision and the vehicles were still being recovered an hour later.

At 5.30pm there was a second collision, involving five vehicles, on the A1198 near Godmanchester which also led to the road being blocked and queueing traffic.

Police said three of the vehicles needed to be recovered after the accident and there had only been slight injuries in both crashes.

Firefighters from Huntingdon and Papworth were called to A1198 crash the at 5.51pm and used specialist cutting equipment to release a female casualty who was left in the care of the ambulance service.
